National Day of Arts in Care Homes

Art and creativity is an important part of care home activities. Whether it's a painting session, live music performance or ceramics class, staying creative is a great way for our residents to stay connected and build a close community, especially in the current climate.

On Thursday 24 September Arts in Care Homes held a National Day of Arts in Care Homes Day and we organised events and activities throughout all our care homes to celebrate the role of art in care.

Community themed online art gallery

Across our care homes, residents have been producing original artwork to showcase their amazing artistic talents in the Anchor National Online Art Gallery. Each home was asked to submit artwork, paintings, drawings or poetry, based around the theme 'Community'.

Take a look at all the wonderful community inspired artwork our residents have produced:

Bisakha SarkerVirtual dance class

At 11am on Thursday 24 September our care homes across the country were invited to take part in an online dance session of Indian Dance with limited mobility with Bisakha Sarker. This chair based class of soulful movements aims to bring an enhanced sense of wellbeing.

Bisakha Sarker MBE is one of the artists featured in Baring Foundation’s recent publication The Artists In Time. She has extensive experience of working at Care homes and other similar settings all over the country.

As the Artistic director of Chaturangan, Bisakha has organised two international conferences on dance and ageing and produced a dementia friendly culturally diverse performance Fleeting Moments.
