Care home pays tribute to D-Day
John Tully, a Care Assistant at Godiva Lodge care home in Coventry decided to bring items from his grandfather’s collection of D-Day items for the residents.
John's grandfather was a Special Constable during World War II and retained several items which he kindly agreed to share. The items included a police hat, gas masks, leaflets and clothing.
The residents were delighted to have the chance to explore these items and enjoyed the opportunity to try them on and reminiscence. In particular, the iconic police hat and gas mask were a favourite amongst the residents - many having their photo taken wearing them.
D-Day remembers the 1944 Normandy landings on June 6th, the largest seaborne invasion in history. This year is the 75th anniversary and many Anchor care homes are paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who sadly died in the D-Day landings.
