Anchor Hanover acquires new site in Rochester to support ambitious growth plans
Anchor Hanover, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of specialist housing and care for people in later life, has exchanged contracts on a 1.6-acre site within the waterside development Rochester Riverside, enabling the delivery of 101 new mixed-tenure homes for over 55’s. The acquisition falls in line with the Anchor Hanover’s ambitious development strategy, vision for the future and target to create 5,700 homes for older people across the UK over the next ten years.
The acquired site is part of Rochester Riverside, the large-scale regeneration scheme being delivered by leading UK mixed-tenure developer, Countryside, and Hyde, one of the largest housing associations in the country. Creating up to 1,400 new homes, amenities and green spaces, the new neighbourhood is located between the River Medway and Rochester town centre.
Over the next three years, Anchor Hanover will deliver an independent living scheme of 101 one, two and three-bedroom apartments for rent (40% of homes) and shared ownership (60% of homes). These new homes will be part of the £419m investment into the regeneration of Rochester which will create a vibrant new integrated community where residents will be surrounded by a plethora of amenities, new transport connections, commercial spaces, well maintained landscapes, and open spaces on their doorstep.
Charles Taylor, Head of New Business at Anchor Hanover said:
The acquisition of the site in the award-winning Riverside Rochester scheme is another step towards our commitment to creating more homes where people love living in later life. By securing land within well connected wider development schemes such as this, we are able to provide more choice for people to where they choose and be connected with the wider community.
The new land has been carefully considered to ensure residents are within close proximity of local amenities and transport links which are important factors to our residents. The new development will also be home to an onsite bistro, a communal lounge, hair and beauty facilities and a guest suite. Construction is due to start in 2022 subject to planning approval and expected to complete in Spring 2024, when we look forward to welcoming our first residents to the new community.
Andrew Usher, Managing Director, Partnerships South London, Countryside, added:
Set alongside the River Medway, Rochester Riverside is fast becoming a community for everybody, and we are thrilled to be welcoming Anchor Hanover. With great amenities within the development and in the nearby town centre, and great connectivity within Kent and London, we have no doubt this flourishing enclave will go from strength to strength.
Award winning architect Tooley Foster who has previously worked with Anchor Hanover to provide new homes in various locations across the UK have been chosen to work on the delivery of the development in Rochester.
