Greenhive care home Christmas tree decorated by local community

Residents and carers at the Peckham care home have thanked members of the public for helping to decorate the care home’s Christmas tree.

The care team from Anchor’s Greenhive care home on Bayards Road put up a Christmas tree in front of their entrance and invited members of the public to help decorate it to kickstart the Christmas festivities. Greenhive Christmas tree

Although current circumstances have prevented Greenhive from partaking in their usual Christmas time communal activities, the Christmas tree decoration was organised by Anchor Hanover as a way of ensuring that Greenhive could still have some community interaction while ensuring everyone remained safe.

So last week, members of the public, wearing PPE and following social distancing guidelines, came to Greenhive at certain times during the day to add decorations to their tree. In the evening, residents were then treated to the spectacle of the new tree being lit up at the official Christmas light switch-on ceremony.

Irene Guppy, 83, said how much she enjoyed seeing the Christmas tree go up and seeing the kind members of the public decorate it:

It was lovely to see the lights come on and the tree looks absolutely beautiful! It’s a shame we haven’t been able to celebrate Christmas in the usual way, but it was still very nice to see everyone coming over to help decorate our tree with the decorations we made!

Yanique King, Manager of Greenhive, was keen to thank the members of the public for their contribution:

A huge thank you to everyone who came to help decorate our Christmas tree, it was a lovely occasion and showed that despite all the current challenges we can still celebrate Christmas in our own way. This is just one of the lovely things we have planned for our Christmas celebrations. We will also be hosting a Christmas Cake competition and residents are also looking forward to the virtual Christmas carol performance at the Old Vic.
