The Beeches care home resident goes viral with dancing video
Sheila Moss and Val Nistelrooy, a resident and care assistant at Anchor’s The Beeches care home on Forty Foot Rd respectively, were filmed dancing to Only You, the 1955 classic hit by The Platters, during a dancing and singing activity session at The Beeches.
The video was put up on Facebook and Twitter and soon gathered a large and appreciative audience. Both posts received a large number of views and many positive comments from well-wishers.
Many comments expressed how nice it was to see care home residents being active and enjoying themselves, but the majority were in praise of the fantastic dancing skills of both Sheila and Val!
Sheila, who has lived at The Beeches for five years, said she enjoyed dancing because of her and her family’s love for musicals, and performing arts in general:
I’ve always liked to express myself through music, dancing and performing and I couldn’t resist having a bit of spin when Only You came on. Besides, it’s always helps when you have a great dancing partner as well! It’s mad to think so many people have watched me dancing now but we’ve seen so many nice messages and it’s great that we can show everyone we’re still having fun despite everything that’s going on.
Val was very humbled by the positive response, saying:
It’s great to see our dance has brought many people happiness. Sheila is a wonderful dancer and we always love having a chance to dance and have fun! For us at Anchor’s The Beeches, our biggest motivator is boosting emotional, social and psychological wellbeing of our residents. Helping them keep active and seeing them smile is the greatest motivator I can imagine!
