Nelson Lodge care team wins top regional awards at Great British Care Awards
Three team members of Nelson Lodge care home have triumphed at the regional finals of the Great British Care Awards 2020, which recognise excellence across the care sector. The awards were rescheduled to Summer 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Kayleigh Darby and Kathleen Gaynor, both Team Leaders at Anchor’s Nelson Lodge care home in St Neots, won The Care Home Worker Award and The Frontline Leaders Award, respectively. Callum Newman, who joined Anchor Hanover through the Apprenticeship Programme in 2020 and has recently secured a permanent position as a Care Assistant at Anchor’s Nelson Lodge care home, took home The Care Home Newcomer Award.
The Great British Care Awards pays tribute to individuals who have gone the extra mile to help improve the lives of residents within their care.
Kayleigh, Kathleen and Callum were commended for their passion and commitment to residents at Anchor’s Nelson Lodge care home. The judges concluded that both Kayleigh and Kathleen consistently go above and beyond in their roles while Callum was praised for his phenomenal personal and professional growth since joining as an apprentice. Callum plans to continue his development through training and practice.
Having won their regional award, Kayleigh, Kathleen and Callum will now be entered into the national finals for their respective categories which will take place at The ICC in Birmingham on Saturday 25 September.

I’m so proud of Kayleigh, Kathleen and Callum, they’re each a delight to work with and a credit to the team at Anchor’s Nelson Lodge care home. I’m sure all their colleagues and our residents will agree!
“It’s been wonderful to see Callum grow from Apprentice to Care Assistant and I look forward to seeing how Callum continues to develop as a dedicated carer.”
Callum was delighted with his win, saying: “I just can’t believe it! Honestly it was such an honour just to be nominated but to win The Care Home Newcomer Award is a dream come true!
“I’m looking forward to going to the final in Birmingham, along with Kayleigh and Kathleen. I hope I can do everyone at Anchor’s Nelson Lodge care home and the whole region proud!”
