Summer of Sport TRYathlon
Our residents and colleagues love sport. And with so many big events being cancelled this year, we need your help to bring the nail-biting excitement of sporting competition back into their lives.
So limber-up, grab your best Lycra outfit and get ready for the Summer of Sport TRYathlon. All you need is some household essentials, a camera phone, a Facebook or Twitter account and a friend/partner/coach to film the results.
Give the three events in the Summer of Sport TRYathlon a try today!
See the instructions below on how to share your videos with us so that we can turn them into an epic sports video for our residents to enjoy.
Step 1. Choose your event
What’s your strength? Razor-sharp reflexes, precision accuracy, muscles of steel or are you the ultimate allrounder? Choose your event wisely, or just do all three (they only take a minute).
Toilet Roll Keepie-Uppies
Using only your legs, knees and feet, how many times can you bounce a toilet roll up in the air before it hits the floor?
Are you the Lionel Messi of the lavatory? Let’s find out.*
*Sensible bit – Make sure you have plenty of space and it’s probably best to do this well away from your best collection of china.
Milk Carton Weightlifting
Choose your weight division by selecting a full two, four or (for the brave amongst you) six pint plastic milk carton.
Stand with you back to a wall and using just your thumb and forefinger, hold the carton in front of you at arm’s length for as long as you can.*
*Sensible bit – No glass milk bottles here folks – plastic only. And watch your toes, especially if you’re going for the heavyweight six-pint division.
Teabag Target Practice
Choose your weapon – circular, pyramid or classic square, it’s up to you. All you need to do is place an empty mug on a work surface, stand roughly two meters away and see how many of your three teabags you can throw into the mug.*
*Sensible bit – If you’re doing this in your kitchen near a hob, make sure it’s switched off. Teabags are surprisingly flammable.
Step 2 – Filming yourself and sharing it with us
Sport draws big audiences and your efforts at the Summer of Sport TRYathlon deserve to be seen.
So be sure to get someone to film you taking part in your event on a camera phone and share it on social media.
If you prefer to use Facebook then visit our page here, upload your video and type your message into the Create Post box at the top, then click Post and the page admins will share it for everyone to see.
All of our care homes have access to social media and will be very much looking forward to watching your athleticism as they get ready for their events 20 – 26 July.
All our homes have been sharing photos and videos of their competitors and sporting events on Twitter using the hashtag #SummerofSport2020. Be sure to use it to share your Summer of Sport TRYathlon attempts too!Follow us on Twitter
